took my 1st aerial silks class tonight @ Marin Aerial Dance. let’s just say, this sh*t is _challenging_ and humbling.
i _love_ that other places, people say i am flexible and strong; here, there is a _lot_ of room to grow. there is something fun and attractive to me about bumping into something that feels possible, yet sort of impossible.
from what i can tell, aerial silks tends to be learning a bunch of tricks/pretty poses, and stringing them together. i’m more interested in freestyle, expressive movement but this seems like seriously fun, challenging crosstraining and i am up for that!
tonight i met a 59 year old asian woman who started aerial stuff in her 40s, has had both hip joints replaced, and was doing stuff. the teacher said there’s a 63 y.o. who comes regularly. that’s inspiring.
